Explore Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons at Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah

Who doesn’t love exploring slot canyons? I know that I do love them and both Peekaboo and Spooky  slot canyons in Staircase-Escalante National Monument are my favorite. Well, I have not yet explored many but nevertheless the walk through these beautiful slots are so fun, free of charge and without loads of people. But perhaps these two slot canyons are not for everybody as some parts of the walk can get very SP-O-O-KY.

I wish that I was blogging or at least knew I was going to blog so I could take loads of good pictures and takes note for the blog. But now I just have to work with what I have and try to write out of my memory…and I can’t remember much other than we had an awesome fun day!

The Peek-a-boo and Spooky slots canyons are at the Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah can be found about 40km down on the Hole-in-the-Rock road. To get there I really recommend you to go with a high-clearance vehicles as the road are bumpy and corrugated or else you will have a very uncomfortable ride like we had but it was worth it so don’t hesitate to try even with an ordinary car.

From the parking you will need to walk about 1km steep path down to slots.

Looks very inviting right?

I remember us walking without really knowing where to start or where to finish the hike. But we just went wherever and we had fun, that is what Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons are about…having fun exploring.

I can’t remember exactly what picture was taken at what slot but I do know that the most narrow slot is the Spooky slot.

It is really an amazing feeling to be walking between the warm and reddish stone walls at Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons in Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah.

Peek-a-boo! Where is David?

I wouldn’t say that exploring Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons was difficult but I can understand that some would find getting through the slots very hard because at some part you will need to climb using both of your hands, be on your butt or squeeze yourself through a small hole.

But would I visit Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons with Mirabelle, my almost two years old daughter? Yes I would without any hesitation! With some difficulties but we would manage!

I just can’t get enough of this mix of warms colors 50 shade of red.

It is getting narrow at Peekaboo and Spooky slot canyons at Staircase-Escalante National Monument! Perhaps  these slots are not for someone who is pregnant or especially not someone with a beer belly! The thought of David getting stuck between the stone walls is quite funny.

Just watch out of where you lay your hand!

Yes this is the only way out of the slot, unless you want to turn back where you came from.

I do love natural formations like this! I have always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon! It’s amazing that there are so many other natural wonders like this, aside from the Grand Canyon – for those who hate the crowds (like me!). I don’t think I’d survive through those narrow passageways though as I am highly claustrophobic!

  2. I’ve been always dreamed to visit canyon national park and reading this just makes me want to go more! This place is sure “50 shades of red” haha xD
I don’t have a beer belly so hope I can go through those narrow corners 🙂 Would love to visit this place one day and observe the beauty of it in real life.

  3. What a unique rock formation! Such canyon is a great place to explore and get lost. I would love to take a trip there next year!

Wow…I don’t think that I can mange to walk through these extremely narrow alleys in the canyon. Though it looks absolutely photogenic. I loved the colors. Yes, I do feel that its spooky to walk alone there.

  5. Its gorgeous texture of mountain rocks. Feel the adventure while looking through the narrow passes.
